Casey Welsh, F/OGA
This is an intensive 70-hour course. In addition to in-class work, homework is assigned and trainees must complete the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA) required readings. This course meets the requirements for the Orton-Gillingham Academy Associate certification. This course is specifically designed for those wishing to work with dyslexic learners or learners who are specifically struggling with reading and spelling. This comprehensive training prepares educators and interventionists with knowledge and tools to implement direct and explicit multisensory literacy lessons that focus on being diagnostic and prescriptive and tailoring instruction specifically to the student in front of you.
Practicum: The Associate level practicum includes mentorship from your Fellow as you complete a minimum of 100-hours of 1-to-1 intervention lessons with a minimum of 10 observations. The practicum must last a minimum of 8 months with most trainees completing this process within 12 months. Throughout the practicum Casey will offer guidance and support as you choose an appropriate practicum student, determine starting point of instruction through assessment data, and write and deliver diagnostic and prescriptive OG lessons. Throughout the practicum Casey will prepare you for the process of applying to the Academy for Associate credentials at the end of your practicum. The cost of the practicum is $2000 paid in installments.
