Orton-Gillingham Training – Associate Level. This 70 hour course covers all the basic curricular components designed to transfer to a 1:1 teaching. The comprehensive training focuses on the multisensory principles of teaching as well as current research-based language instruction designed to integrate reading with spelling and writing. The class content includes phonological awareness, the history, and structure of the English language, phonology, syllable types and division patterns, introduction to morphology, spelling rules, and generalizations, and the neurological underpinnings of dyslexia. Trainees further gain practice interpreting testing, and planning/delivering individualized diagnostic and prescriptive lessons.

Participants receive hundreds of support materials to have in their toolbox. A private FB group provides ongoing reminders, links, documents, and a weekly optional 1/2 hr meetings.

Practicum: A 100 hours of required practicum is required with a minimum of 10 supervised observations after the completion of the coursework. The practicum fee is included in the course fee. The Practicum begins once the course is complete which includes 100 hours of Supervised practicum over a minimum of 8 months and 10 formal observations will be reviewed and discussed with the trainee

Prerequisite: Bachelor’s Degree and completion of the OGA Online Subscriber Course before the first class.
