This course meets the standards for Associate level coursework for the OGA. This comprehensive training introduces individuals to the principles and instructional practices of the Orton-Gillingham approach. Providing the knowledge base to implement OG in a variety of settings, trainees will learn about research-based language instruction best suited for teaching reading and spelling. Course content follows the OGA curriculum and explores syllable types and division patterns, spelling rules and generalizations, morphology, planning and executing lesson plans, and much more!
Practicum: For an additional fee, a supervised practicum with mentorship is offered after the completion of coursework to fulfill the requirements for OGA certification at the Associate level. The Associate practicum consists of a minimum of 100 hours (OG lessons) 1:1 over a minimum of 8 consecutive months. Throughout your 100 lessons, you will complete 10 observations with the Fellow. Additional tasks are required. For example, required readings, a student profile, and the submission of 3 lessons to the OGA. Following the completion of your practicum, a formal application will be submitted to the OGA. Cost is a flat rate of $250 per observation.
