Introduction to the Orton-Gillingham Approach for Upper Grades
The Orton-Gillingham (OG) Approach is the underlying foundation of all multisensory, structured literacy instruction. This course is designed for classroom teachers in grades 3-12. You will gain a basic understanding of the OG Approach and learn how to design integrated reading and spelling lessons. You’ll learn about the reading brain and dyslexia, handwriting, syllable types, syllable division, spelling patterns, and more. You will leave class with a detailed guide for teaching suffixes, prefixes, Latin roots, and Greek combining forms. This hands-on, interactive online course will cover the structure of the English language and how to teach it sequentially and systematically using a multisensory approach. This course is available for three graduate credits. The course meets the coursework requirements for Orton-Gillingham Academy Classroom Educator Level.
