The Sally Borden Program at Friends Academy
The Sally Borden Program at Friends Academy is sponsoring an Orton-Gillingham Institute, which provides a training course for educators and parents. The 60-hour training prepares its participants for the Associate level at the Academy. The courses are designed for teachers who work with students with dyslexia or language-based learning differences.
During this training, participants will learn about dyslexia and reading difficulties as well as the following fundamental elements of the Orton-Gillingham Approach: introduction to phonology, basic phonics, morphology and words derived from Anglo-Saxon, Latin, and Greek, strategies for multi-sensory instruction, formal and informal testing and how to use that information for tutorials, OG lesson planning, writing and grammar skills and handwriting instruction, and mock tutoring sessions.
Practicum: For an additional fee, the practicum is arranged on an individual basis after completing the coursework.
Prerequisite: Bachelor’s Degree
